John asks…
Giant Panda?
What are the human activities that have disrupted the food chain of the Giant Panda?
And what human activities have caused it to become endangered?
RoseLepage answers:
Read you homework and figure it out for yourself!

Laura asks…
How long has the Giant Panda been on the endangered species list?
I am writing a paper on the Giant Panda and I would like to know how long the giant panda has been on the endangered species list. I have looked all over the internet and cant seem to find it. Thx:)
RoseLepage answers:
The Giant Panda has been a target for poaching by locals since ancient times, and by foreigners since it was introduced to the West. Starting in the 1930s, foreigners were unable to poach Giant Pandas in China because of the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, but pandas remained a source of soft furs for the locals. The population boom in China after 1949 created stress on the pandas’ habitat, and the subsequent famines led to the increased hunting of wildlife, including pandas. During the Cultural Revolution, all studies and conservation activities on the pandas were stopped. After the Chinese economic reform, demand for panda skins from Hong Kong and Japan led to illegal poaching for the black market, acts generally ignored by the local officials at the time.
Though the Wolong National Nature Reserve was set up by the PRC government in 1958 to save the declining panda population, few advances in the conservation of pandas were made, due to inexperience and insufficient knowledge of ecology. Many believed that the best way to save the pandas was to cage them. As a result, pandas were caged at any sign of decline, and suffered from terrible conditions. Because of pollution and destruction of their natural habitat, along with segregation due to caging, reproduction of wild pandas was severely limited. In the 1990s, however, several laws (including gun control and the removal of resident humans from the reserves) helped the chances of survival for pandas. With these renewed efforts and improved conservation methods, wild pandas have started to increase in numbers in some areas, even though they still are classified as a rare species.

Ken asks…
Why do people call giant pandas panda bears when scientists are not sure they are related to bears?
Giant pandas,or as some people call them panda bears ,are related to an animal that looks like a raccoon,a red panda. Therefore, scientists are really not sure where pandas cam from.I do not like it when other people call them bears when no one knows for sure what animal they originated from or why the two types of pandas look like they came from two completely different species.
RoseLepage answers:
Due to recent genetic tests, we are now sure they are relatives of bears. Before, they were considered relatives of the lesser panda or red panda, which would put it with the raccoons.
*added* it is also unsure if the red panda belongs in the raccoon family, or in it’s own family.

Jenny asks…
The Giant Panda’s current wild population is estimated to be two thousand. How does this fact impact the risk?
of extinction of the Giant Panda?
Choose only one:
a. Pandas will increase as more bamboo has time to grow with the current, small population.
b. Since the panda’s population is very limited, its risk of extinction is greater.
c. A disease will have little effect since there is not a large amount of pandas.
d. There is a wider variety of genes in the small population, making the pandas better able to survive.
RoseLepage answers:
b..

Sandy asks…
What are the steps to get a giant panda in the US?
What are some of the hurdles (legal or otherwise) to obtaining a panda from China or a zoo? Let’s assume a budget of under $1 million US. Alternatives for over $1 million also ok if it just isn’t possible for less.
Best answer should include a general check list of things to do and should not include “how to capture a giant panda in the wild.”
note: this mostly just to understand the process.
RoseLepage answers:
Any panda outside of china is here on lease from the chinese government. They do not belong to anyone except China and all permissions must be granted from them. From what i recall of the importation it has to do with the facilities and personnell and their reputation for breeding captive animals along with their dedication to this particular species along with some serious wooing from management. I would doubt that any reputable organization could spend less than $5 million to create an appropriate habitat that would interest the chinese government into looking into loaning a panda. I can’t imagine, given their demand, that the chinese government would even think about loaning to something other than a well-established facility with top rate people and environments.

John asks…
Diabetic diet?
Diabetic diet?
I heard going on one helps lose weight. But what exactly is the diabetic diet and what does it consist of and what will I have to do to get on one?
RoseLepage answers:
It’s mainly all sugarfree food. And instead of white bread/wheat bread….white rice/brown rice, etc….It’s a good idea to eat like a diabetic would. They have so much sugar free stuff out there too, and you can’t even tell the difference with most of it.

Mandy asks…
Diabetic Diet?
Does anyone have any good websites that will help me with a diabetic diet? I don’t have diabetes but my doctor has put me on it to help prevent me from getting it. If you have some good recipes that I can use for myself and my family it will be greatly appreciated. Also, I wouldn’t mind on some tips or advice to help me on this diet.
*Please don’t give me any cruel comments or be a smart a**!

Daniel asks…
What is the best FREE 1400 calorie diabetic diet to follow which affords a high rate of weight loss?
If you are a diabetic, please offer diet suggestions you’ve been successful with or offer suggestions from a close friend or relative who is a diabetic.
RoseLepage answers:
South Beach Diet, definitely. My husband and my brother are both diabetic and their doctors recommended the South Beach Diet. My husband lost the 20 pounds he needed to lose, my brother lost 60 pounds. It’s balanced and full of good, healthy foods. It’s not one of those obsessively low carb diets.
Both of them have had such awesome success with it that they are now able to control their diabetes strictly with diet and are off of all diabetes medications!
It’s totally free in that you prepare your own meals. You can check the book out from the library along with several South Beach cookbooks, and there are free South Beach support forums and communities on the internet.
Best of luck to you!

Chris asks…
How do you create a diabetic diet plan?
I am showing signs of being a diabetic. Since most of my family members are diagnosed to be diabetics, I want to be vigilant and create a diabetic diet plan for myself so that it won’t get worse.
RoseLepage answers:
A low carb diet is in order. Mendosa’s Low Glycemic Index Diet is the best you can get . In one week you will know what to eat and what not and how much. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
This table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items. Not all of them, however, are available in the United States. They represent a true international effort of testing around the world.
The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers–the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike. A list of carbohydrates with their glycemic values is shown below. A GI is 70 or more is high, a GI of 56 to 69 inclusive is medium, and a GI of 55 or less is low.
The glycemic load (GL) is a relatively new way to assess the impact of carbohydrate consumption that takes the glycemic index into account, but gives a fuller picture than does glycemic index alone. A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into sugar. It doesn’t tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. You need to know both things to understand a food’s effect on blood sugar. That is where glycemic load comes in. The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn’t a lot of it, so watermelon’s glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low.
Foods that have a low GL almost always have a low GI. Foods with an intermediate or high GL range from very low to very high GI.
Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The “Serve size (g)” column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney’s Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/100*6=4.32, rounded to 4.
You can forget the metformin for now.
There are 4 key steps to controlling glucose levels.
Here are the 4 keys:
1) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph… This is a great site for info
2) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don’t need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells.
3)diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can’t count carbs so I use Mendosa’s Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
4) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.
Exercise is very important.
Take care

Michael asks…
What weight loss pills have you taken and has worked that you recommend?
I am just asking people to help me, have you or your friends or family have taken any weight loss pills that have worked and that they recommend for other people.
RoseLepage answers:
Yes, i’ve tried a few,
Zantrex-3- Amazing, i lost 2 stone on these without any shakiness, sickness or any side effects,
Alli- 3 lousy pounds and that was never worth the side effects.
Xenedrine FX-Rubbish i lost a couple of pounds only because i felt too sick and shaky to eat
Zotrim- Again nothing
Green Tea- nothing but my skin looked ace.
Hope this helps, but definately eating healthy and keeping busy is what has kept the pounds off .

William asks…
What kind of drugs/weight loss pills do a really nice job or suppressing appetite?
I’m trying to lose weight, and I’m wondering what kind of legal drugs or weight loss pills really work. Please don’t tell me to just eat well and exercise, I already do this.
RoseLepage answers:
I’m not convinced that you are eating all that well. Maybe you’re just taking in too many calories, but if you want to die you can always try the over the counter stuff out there that does little more than raise your heart level. Maybe caffeine would be your best bet.

Mark asks…
What do you think about weight loss pills?
Who is for and who is against weight loss pills? I`m doing some sort of a survey among you people so I can decide whether I will take some weight loss pills in order to lose almost 30 pounds or not. If you don`t agree to weight loss drugs, what else besides eating vegetables do you suggest?
RoseLepage answers:
Hello! I don`t agree to weight loss pills. I believe you must lose weight the same way you gained weight.. The best way to lose weight is the healthy way. Just keep your calorie intake under control and things will work out great! I work a lot so I use an online diet and workout planner to count my calories. There`s a good one at http://www.projectweightloss.com/, and it’s free. in case you`re interested in losing weight the “usual” way, that’s a great choice. In my opinion, this is the safest and healthiest way to stay in shape.

Your questions about 4 mpeg-4

Thomas asks…
How do I convert a DVD player from MPEG-4 (simple profile) to MPEG-4?
My Sony DVD player plays only MPEG-4 (simple profile), ie the manual says that files with copyright protection (Digital Rights Management) cannot be played. I dont understand this. Could anyone advise me as to how I can get my DVD player to play all MPEG-4 files ?
RoseLepage answers:
I have a sony dvd player too, I think you are wrong, sony dvd players manual says mpeg-4, means it can play divx avi files, because divx based on mpeg-4 standard technique, and you should note, mp4 is a media containter format, no dvd players can play all mp4 files, so if you want to play videos on sony dvd player, you need to use a right software to convert your video files to divx avi files or video dvd, both can be played well on your sony dvd player, you can follow me to use RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any video files to divx avi video files, it also can convert any video files to video dvd, easy to use, run RZ DVD Creator, directly drag and drop your video files into the software, select “divx-dvd” as target format, then press “START” button, you will get good divx avi files from your video files, and then you can play the converted divx avi files well on your sony DVD players. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and donwload it, hope it can help you.
At last, by the way, Digital Rights Management means DRM which is a digital media copyright protected method, usually used to protect digital media on the internet, like the iTunes Store Movies use DRM.

Chris asks…
When I play mpeg-4 files in quicktime or realplayer I hear sound but the screen is green. What do i do?
I recently downloaded quicktime and realplayer on my computer so I could use it with ulead video stuido but whenever I try to play mpeg-4 videos the screen is green but I can hear the video perfectly. It plays all other video formats fine. Did i download it wrong or do I need to download it again?
RoseLepage answers:
id reccommend downloading the k-lite codec pack @ codecs.com

David asks…
How do i save a video as mpeg-4 in adobe after effects cs5?
How do i save a video as mpeg-4 in adobe after effect cs5 i only have 3 options export as xml and swf and another option and i dont wanna do it in avi i want it in mpeg-4.
Thank you for reading!
RoseLepage answers:
Don’t use the File > Export menu. Use the render queue or Adobe Media Encoder. See this page:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79f3a.html

James asks…
How to get camera to AUTOMATICALLY not save in MPEG 4?
When I plug in my videocamera to get vids onto my computer, is there anyway to get them not to automatically save in MPEG 4? Because my video editing sotfware (pinnacle) dosen’t support MPEG 4.
If not, how should I be converting these videos?
Thanks a bunch!
RoseLepage answers:
When asking for help, it’s best to list your information, in this case, the specific camera and the specific Pinnacle software you have.
Yes, Pinnacle software supports MPEG-4.
They are recorded as MPEG-4 and simply downloaded from the camera. They are not converted to MPEG-4.

Ken asks…
What’s the best free software on Internet to Convert a DVD to MPEG 4 (DivX) format & keep the subtitles 2?
I want to convert a movie in standard DVD-5 format (4.7 Gb).
I know nothing about MPEG 4 (DivX) encoding, so I need something bulletproof & userfriendly.
RoseLepage answers:
just search for (super2009 converter download free) on google and download the program.you will be then one click away from converting all your videos

Your questions about pain relief

Ken asks…
pain relief?
what is the best pain relief for horses? one of my horses is lame and also has artharitis. Please Help
i have a full jar of bute and will get some of ther others thankx
RoseLepage answers:
Probably you should take this one to your vet… but generally, bute is an ok short-term pain reliever/anti -inflammatory. Banamine is good for immediate pain relief but should only be used when absolutely necessary. I like boswellia instead of bute, and some people have success with yucca.
Liniments, freeze gels & poultices might be useful in some instances.
If your horse is severely arthritic, you might want to consider an injectable such as Adequan. Joint injections might be a possibility as well.
Pain relievers are great, but they won’t solve the problem, they’ll just mask the symptoms. Any idea why your horse is lame?

Laura asks…
Pain relief?
I am 39 weeks and 3 days and I’m expecting him to come anytime soon but I can’t make my mind up about pain relief during labor. What did you take or did you go natural? I’m scared of an epidural, but I’m also scared of pain!
RoseLepage answers:
I am totally with you!
I am going to make the decision on the epidural when I am in the hospital and actually feeling the pain. I won’t know exactly how bad the pain is until I actually feel it…so I am just going to stay open about it. I don’t want to dismiss the epidural all together and think I can go all natural, without knowing whatthat pain feels like…no matter how scared I am of getting an epidural.

Paul asks…
How much pain relief can I expect from cortizone injections into a bulging disk?
Does anyone have a bulging disk which caused a lot of pain? If so, did you get cortizone injections and if you did how much relief from pain did you get? What has been the best pain relief?
RoseLepage answers:
I once had a cortisone shot in my wrist. It was very painful. I have since discovered a drug free non-invasive way to reduce inflammation – I use this product for my back and my knees. Its called actipatch. Works like a charm, easy to use and a good value since it lasts so long.

Chris asks…
Pain Relief?
I am having my wisdom teeth removed in about a month. Until then I am left to deal with the pain. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on to relieve the pressure and pain I am feeling in my jaw. The typical pain relievers like Tylenol and Advil aren’t working.
RoseLepage answers:
Well , have you tried excederine? Also you could get clove oil, found in health food stores, but it doesn’t last too long.

Donna asks…
What is the best pain relief during labour?
Ive never been good with pain, Ive always had extremely painful period pains in life and in general have never been good with pain.
So now that i am pregnant and planning my labour, I would like to know what is the best pain relief as I dont want to have a stressful, painful labour.
Is gas and air going to be enough? does it actually take any pain away?
Or would an epidural be a better option?
What are the pro’s and con’s for both of these?
RoseLepage answers:
It depends on your situation at the time and when you end up in hospital in relation to the progress of your labour. If you are in advanced labour gas and air becomes the only option. If you wish an epidural, which is not without risk and increases your risk of requiring intervention, (forceps or a Caesarean,) ideally you should discuss this option with your midwife in advance. Otherwise the middle option is pethidine and gas and air in the later stages.

Betty asks…
Diet pills?
I bought diet pills called ‘Metabo Extreme’, and it says on the pack to take them twice daily with meals and not to take after 4pm. I have a few questions…
* Why can’t you take them after 4pm?
* Can you take two at the same time?
* Can you overdose on diet pills, like if I took 3 a day instead of 2?
Thanks x
RoseLepage answers:
Call the company or your doctor and ask.
FYI…diet pills don’t work.

Charles asks…
diet pills?
so i’m considering diet pills but i have some questions about them:
how old do you have to be to buy them?
where do you buy them?
which kinds work best?
RoseLepage answers:
Funny thing about diet pills, notice how every single one of them says “works best with healthy diet and exercise?” It’s because diet pills don’t work. Other than having lypo suction, the only way to shed pounds is diet and exercise.

Joseph asks…
Diet Pills?
I’m seeing all these commercials on tv for the pills to help you loose weight with diet and exercise, has anyone tried any and had success. I’m thinking about buying some but I dont know which is the best or if they even work. Any input??
RoseLepage answers:
I am now 61 years old,I have tried everything in my lifetime to get quick fix ways to lose a few pounds. I took diet pills when I was a bit younger and it slowly but surely raised my blood pressure without my knowledge, Then a lot of my hair fell out (in clumps) . I went to the Dr. discovered the extreme high blood pressure and the reason my hair was falling out. IT WAS THE STUPID DIET PILLS! DON’T TAKE DIET PILLS!!! Drink lots of water and green tea go for a fast walk every day 5 miles or more and eat what you want but don’t eat so much of it. If you do that everyday and then once in a while pig out you will be OK and settle into a normal weight.

Mark asks…
diet Pills?
I was researching a diet pill 7 dfbx, it looks pretty effective. Are there stores in the U.S. like rite aid or target that would sell these types of pills?
RoseLepage answers:
Well, I’d love to see where you got your research. Diet pills don’t work. If they did, don’t you think everyone would be thin? We’d all just take a “pretty effective” pill and fit in smaller jeans.
The only thing diet pill marketers are pretty effective at is making your wallet smaller.
If you really want to lose weight for the long term, you need to accept the fact that there are no shortcuts and you just need to learn to eat right and exercise. That really isn’t as hard as most people think it is. Check out the article titled “Ridiculously Simple Rules of Good Nutrition” here:

That should get you started.

Laura asks…
Diet PIlls?
Let’s say right after I take diet pills I exercise like every day. Will I still gain the weight back?
I will also eat right.
Prove it to me. How you can gain the weight back you lost. You burned the fat right? Then how the hell can you get it back?
RoseLepage answers:
Diet pills don’t work, and on the bottle it says to eat healthy and exercise…so am saving my money this time. So it depends if you are eating right and exercising really.
UPDATE
I have to agree with you on that, so many people always think your going to gain weight after you lost it.
I lost 20 pounds in four days doing a strict diet and never gained back a pound of it and I did that a year ago.
Clue: after any diet healthy or not don’t eat like its your last day on earth.

I should know. I’m an idiot.
I bought the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program a few years ago (Actually, I think it was called “Weight Loss 4 Idiots” then). I was tempted by their claim that I could “lose 9 pounds in 11 days” by “eating foods that I choose”. I was excited to fork over my money and begin my journey to weight loss success.
What happened? Well, when I tried to select my foods, I was presented with a list of food choices, many of which I didn’t like. Despite what they’ll tell you in the advertisements, this is a high protein low carb diet. And I’m a vegetarian. There were many “fake meat” products to choose from, but I don’t like those either.
Still, I thought that I might be able to substitute foods that I did like and somehow apply the principle of the diet. I didn’t like what I saw. Other review sites will tell you that you get to eat “4 square meals a day” on the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program. But this isn’t entirely true. You do get to eat four meals a day. However, the “meals” consist of one food only. How much of any one food can a person eat? Not much.
What about all the additional information that comes with the program? There was not a single piece of information on that site which I hadn’t already heard from a free source.
Fat Loss 4 Idiots only works because it is a very low calorie, low carb diet. However, it’s just that. A diet. It doesn’t teach you how to properly eat so that you don’t gain weight when you go off the diet. It’s likely that this is just a temporary solution.
The weight will come back.
The reality is that losing weight permanently isn’t easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. I know that’s not a popular sentiment, but it’s the truth. You are much better off making healthy changes over time that become a permanent part of your life.
Shannon Tani is a former fattie, who weighed over 220lbs. She has currently lost over 70lbs. One day she realized that people would rather hear dieting advice from someone who’s “been there, done that” than a boring old doctor who’s never been fat a day in his life. So she started the website Better Off Fat to share her experiences and ideas.

Can someone tell me a fast weight loss diet?
I am going on a cruise in a few months and I need to lose around 30 lbs so I won’t be embarrassed when I go swimming. Can someone recommend a fast weight loss diet that doesn’t cost tons of money?
Thanks!
RoseLepage answers:
I think it all starts with eating right and doing excerise first. I wasn’t always in shape. Many years ago I was very overweight and didn’t watch what I ate and it quickly became out of control. I tried every machine and diet food out there..along with many diet programs but none of them worked. A few years back I tried a program called the automatic fat loss system http://www.bestfastweightlossdiet.com which worked wonders for me. It takes you through everything you need to know in order to lose weight fast. Try it out , it may work for you in time for the cruise! Have fun!!! The link is below if you want to look at that program Mike:

Sandy asks…
How to loss weight fast and easy?
Fast weight loss is unhealthy because it can slow your metabolism and it will make you start burning muscle (from what I understand so far).
So my question is, Can fast weight loss be healthy if while cutting your calories you still separate to 5-6 meals a day to keep your metabolism up; While also going to the gym everyday working different muscle groups every other day, while still doing a strong aerobic workout every day?

I am going on a cruise in a few months and I need to lose around 30 lbs so I won’t be embarrassed when I go swimming. Can someone recommend a fast weight loss diet that doesn’t cost tons of money?
Thanks!

I stuck relegiously to it for 3 months and lose 7 pound. I have quite a lot to lose so i thought i would lose more. The main problem was i ended up with too much uric acid in the blood and now my joints are painful but im going to try fast tract hypnosis. Keeping my fingers crossed. My friend also tried it and only lost 3 pound in a month.
edit this is something i read
